Our association

Schlosskeller is a cultural venue located in the historic cellar of Windecken Castle, whose origins date back around 800 years.

For many years, Schlosskeller has been a meeting place for live music, culture and community.

Saved by its guests

The Kulturverein Windecker Schlosskeller e.V. was founded in 2013 to preserve Schlosskeller as a cultural institution.

When the future of Schlosskeller was under threat, it was its guests and friends who stepped in and took responsibility for preserving it. What began as an effort to support the existing operation developed further: since 1 January 2017, the association has operated Schlosskeller entirely on its own.

This has made it possible to preserve Schlosskeller as a place for live music, culture and community in Windecken.

What we want to achieve

The aim of our association is to promote musical and cultural diversity in the region. Different styles of music – from blues, rock ’n’ roll and Latin rock to soul and many other genres – all have a place here.

We particularly want to provide young, amateur and professional artists with a platform where they can perform outside the established commercial cultural scene.

At the same time, Schlosskeller is intended to be a place for exchange and interaction between amateur and professional musicians, artists, music enthusiasts and our audience. New ideas and event concepts help us continually bring this cultural mission to life.

Run by volunteers

The association is a recognised non-profit organisation. Schlosskeller is run primarily by the board and members, all of whom contribute their time on a voluntary basis.

The board is elected regularly and, together with the members, takes care of the cultural programme and the continued development of Schlosskeller.

Admission revenue goes entirely to the performing artists as well as to organisations such as GEMA and the Künstlersozialkasse (KSK), Germany’s social insurance scheme for artists and other creative professionals.

Financing

The association is financed exclusively through membership fees, donations, income from the catering operation – including the sale of drinks and small snacks – and the rental of Schlosskeller for private events.

That is why we are grateful for every donation and every new member.

The annual membership fee is currently €60. We can issue tax-deductible donation receipts for donations.

Get involved

Schlosskeller thrives on the commitment of the people who support it. Anyone who would like to get involved can become a member, volunteer, attend our events or support the association with a donation.

On the first Sunday of every month, we also hold a public association meeting. Members, interested visitors and anyone who would like to get involved with Schlosskeller are very welcome to join us.

It is an opportunity to contribute ideas, help shape events and lend a hand with the many small and large tasks needed to keep Schlosskeller alive.
